TODAY: The final Big Beat'cast (8p BST, 3p ET, 12p PT)

Well, today's the day.

After two demos and 57 one and two hour programs, this is the final, regularly scheduled edition of The Big Beat’cast.  I'm starting a new position next week; something had to give and the show was it.  I’d like to thank Stephen & Harriet from DIY, Bruce & TK from Moheak for allowing me on your stations and of course, thank you for listening to and supporting the show.

Now, don't construe the end of TBB'cast as the death knell of TBB blog.

I'll continue hosting my weekly Amazing Radio show which, I've come to learn, some of you don't know is (and has always been) a completely separate program from TBB'cast.   I also hope to update the blog a bit more frequently with new raves and discoveries rather than having it primarily act as a depository for the radio shows.  As I said in the very first post on the blog two years ago:  This’ll be my place, my outlet, which after all of these years, is all I really want: a place to do my thing. The blog will focus on music discovery, news, reviews, rants and raves.  That's still the case.  I'm also reserving the right to drop a periodic TBB "special" every so often, when the inspiration strikes.

All of my shows (TBB, Amazing) are linked via the Mixcloud widgets on the main menu.  I'll post these last few TBB'casts as downloads soon but will be deleting my Soundcloud account in the next month so get 'em while you can.

As for the final show?  It'll be exactly what you've come to expect.  Hear it on DIY Radio later today (8p BST / 3p Eastern / Noon Pacific) or tomorrow at those same times on Moheak Radio.   I hope you'll join me.

  1. I just want to say thanks for all the effort you've put into TBB'cast the last two years. They've all been been full of quality tunes, most of which I wouldn't have heard had it not been for you.
    Thanks again,

  2. Mike, I wanted to thank you, too. I know WOXY is dead (I was a listener going back to 1988 and it took me forever to accept that) and I know the demise was harder for those of you that worked there, but TBB cast was my way to find new music, to listen to new things, and to have great, curated music played for me week after week.

There is nothing like having a DJ you know, love, and trust, to discover and spin new tunes. Seriously, your little show here puts commercial radio to shame.

Thanks for the years of great music on WOXY, all of TBB casts, and here's to more from you on Amazing Radio.

Wish you the best luck on all your endeavors.

    John

  4. I second Datchu's comments. I've been downloading each episode and look forward to getting to the gym, putting on my iPod and discovering new bands, new tunes. Good luck with the new position!

  5. A thousand thank yous to you and yours. I've said it before, but I'll say it again...music is my life force. And yourself, as well as the entire ex-WOXY DJ staff, played a huge role in forming my musical tastes and opinions over the years.

I look forward to following your show on Amazing Radio and wish you nothing but the best in all of your future adventures!

    Sincerely,
    Derek

  6. Hi Mike,

Really sorry to hear TBB is finishing. As everyone has said above, a great outlet to hear new tunes and was a worthy successor of all things that I loved with WOXY.

Good luck with everything you do! At least I still have Amazing Radio!

  8. Mike – It’s sad to here TBB show is over, but there is much solace and joy to know that your Amazing Radio show will live on. Frankly, I don’t care what it’s called I just want more of the great music and commentary you’ve been giving us for decades now. You’ve had such a huge influence on my music preferences, so for primarily selfish reasons I hope you’ll have the desire and ability to continue your show in one form or another for years to come. Thank you so much for all of your work over the years, it truly is appreciated.

WOXY is dead. TBB is dead. Long live Amazing Radio and Long live Mike Taylor!

I am bummed to hear that you won’t be using your SoundCloud page anymore. Is Amazing Radio opposed to you releasing older AR shows via the SoundCloud platform? If so I understand that, although if they’re not going to allow syndication of past shows then they really need to update the Amazing Radio app so that it can make use of their Amazing Rewind feature to find and play past shows. I rarely get the chance to listen to your shows live so this would make it much easier to listen to your AR show in the car and on the go.

  9. I will never forget the first time you used Chapel Hill as your sign-off song - and I still choked up a bit this time. I'll continue to check your blog for any special edition shows you get time to put together in the future, perhaps and end of the year countdown? I loved the series of shows that you did at the end of 2011. Thanks again for introducing me to so much music I'd never have heard otherwise!
