My Last Show on

I've long since burned myself out talking about the demise of my former employer, the place most of you probably first became familiar with my work.

With the knowledge that its days may be numbered, I recorded the first two hours of my final, regularly scheduled show on Friday, March 12, 2010. Now, I was still on-air the following week during our SXSW broadcasts, but this represents the last show I hosted without interruptions for guests or performances. I just had a sense, you know?

So, while The Big Beat'cast takes a breather this week, I thought you'd enjoy listening to a time capsule of one of WOXY's final days. If you dig on TBB, you might like this.  The tracklisting is after the jump.

The Big Beat 'cast 29

Be listening to DIY Radio today at 4pm Eastern, 3p Central & 2100 BST for a taut, lean 60 minute Big Beat'cast. This week, I'll play new tracks from a few acts who've been in my heavy rotation lately: ELEPHANT, LANTERNS ON THE LAKE, and DAUGHTER. Also, more from the DUM DUM GIRLS and WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS records, in addition to new tracks from BOS ANGELES, ESBEN AND THE WITCH and JAMES BLAKE.

The Beat'cast will return on November 1st with a new two-hour show. Next week, I'll post something that may be of interest to anyone who enjoyed listening to me on WOXY. It's something I ran across - right around two hours long - that oughta bridge the gap until then.

If you can't wait, just press play and go.

The Big Beat 'cast 28

One of six boy/girl duos on this week's Beat'cast, Curxes.

So, boy/girl duos are the new 'Panda', right?

I mean, it's not like they're a new development in indie music: The White Stripes, Fiery Furnaces, Raveonettes, She & Him, Beach House, Cults, Mates Of State, Viva Voce, The Knife, Wye Oak, Sleigh Boys, The Swell Season, Summer Camp, Matt & Kim, and so on.  If this week's TBB lineup means anything, they're comin' on strong like a hurricane.  Say hello then to newbies ELEPHANT, GEM CLUB, THE MOOR, PLAITUM, NEW LOOK, and CURXES (pronounced curses). All of which are featured on this week's Beat'cast and all are pretty damn good.  A table for two, perhaps?

Hit the start button to stream it from this page, or go here and here to catch up on any recent ones you may have missed.  Check back tomorrow for downloads to this week's show.
