The Big Beat 'cast 23: a 2-hour New Music Bonanza

AAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDD NNNNNNNOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!! The starting lineup for your Big Beat'cast...*

As The Big Beat now airs as part of the fledgling DIY Radio, it took me all of two seconds to realize that mine was the only hosted show that clocked in at one hour, rather than two. So this week, we go long.

The Beat'cast is still in the process of nailing down a permanent time slot in the DIY Radio lineup but for this week, it airs today at 4p Eastern/3p Central (2100 UK Time), and on Wednesday at 9a Eastern/8a Central (1400 UK Time). I love the the idea of you hearing it on the DIY stream as it's first presented.

Either way, I know you'll enjoy two full hours of new music on this week's show. It might be my favorite to date.

The Big Beat On DIY Radio

If you've managed to catch the Beat'cast at any time since the start of the year, you've no doubt heard that the show has a second home over on the most excellent UK-based music site This Is Fake DIY. Recently, DIY has gone where so many sites have not and launched their own radio station: DIY Radio. Not only is The Big Beat a charter member of the programming lineup, the station launched its worldwide transmission two weeks ago by airing the Beat'cast (#21 - 2 August). I really like where they're headed with this, and am confident you will too.

In these early days, the great majority of the time is dedicated to a carefully crafted automated jukebox that leans heavily towards new music. The rest of the lineup is left to hosted programming, much like The Big Beat, that features tastemakers, erm, making taste. In short, if you enjoyed what we did on WOXY, you'll feel mighty comfortable at DIY Radio. Plus, they'll maintain an archive of all of the Beat'casts, utilizing the easy to follow Mixcloud.

DIY Radio can be accessed through their site or, perhaps easier, in the iTunes Radio section under Alternative, and that includes the US. I'm extremely honored to be a part of it.

Now, get listening!

The Big Beat 'cast 22

I'm back after a week off with a solid selection of new tunes. Straight up: I like rummaging through new releases and picking out an assortment of new tracks, new bands, and the occasional curiosity. Aiming for a balance as always. Two hours of new stuff? Well, that might be a tall order. An hour seems about right to me. For now, anyway.

Enjoy, and feel free to leave a comment.
